BJ Doyle

Prior to his call to the bar in 2025, BJ practiced as a solicitor on the Gold Coast since 2020, working predominantly in construction and general commercial litigation across Queensland and New South Wales.

BJ’s experience as a solicitor included managing proceedings and instructing Counsel in various complex matters such as:

  • acting for a multinational engineering company in defending a ~$9M contract, negligence and misleading and deceptive conduct claim and cross-claim in the NSW Supreme Court;

  • acting for a property developer in the Qld Supreme Court in both:

    • an application for an order for certiorari or a declaration that a decision of an adjudicator under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld) is void (and previously, in the adjudication process which led to that adjudicator’s decision); and

    • a claim commenced by that property developer against that same head contractor for, among other things, restitution of overpayments and damages for breach of contract and/or repudiation; and

  • acting for a property developer in preparation for their participation in the Federal Court public examination of a once renowned building company which entered liquidation, and strategically responding to a large subpoena for production in that same proceeding.

BJ’s experience also includes:

  • acting for clients in misleading and deceptive conduct claims under the Australian Consumer Law;

  • debt recovery, often involving detailed set-off arguments;

  • acting for body corporates in proceedings related to their obligations to maintain common property; and

  • advising on, enforcing, and responding to subcontractor’s charges under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld).
